The 2007 International Cue Collectors Show
The 2007 International Cue Collectors Show will be held October 18-20, 2007 at the Magnolia Hotel in downtown Houston, Texas. Thursday, October 18 will be a day for golf and socializing over an informal dinner. On Friday, October 19, the event officially begins with a morning introduction of the new book “Cue Art” by Martyne Bachmen and a discussion on cue collecting and art featuring a panel of the invited cuemakers and guests. That afternoon a private cue showing for cuemakers, participating cue collectors and guests will be held in the hotel’s main ballroom. During this showing the “Grand Collection 2007” will be selected, comprised of cues selected to represent each participating cuemaker and collector. A cocktail party will follow at 5:00 PM.

In late-December, the American Poolplayers Association (APA) granted Noriyuki Nanjo approval to begin promoting and administering APA Leagues in Tokyo as the Japanese Poolplayers Association (JPA).

Colorado Springs, Colorado: The Billiard Congress of America (BCA) has announced plans to transfer the oversight and management of its junior programs, including the BCA Junior National Championship and qualifier series, to the Billiard Education Foundation (BEF). In addition, the BCA pledged to support the BEF’s efforts with $50,000 in annual funding over the next three years.

American Academy of Cue Art (AACA)2006 International Billiard Home Recreation Expo (/content/view/309/88/)wound down on Saturday, acclaimed cue maker Richard Black invited members of the industry to his lovely home in Humble, TX, for the first meeting of the American Academy of Cue Art (AACA). Media, cue makers, vendors, and friends mingled at the koi ponds or by Lake Houston, on which the house is situated. Black also hired a mariachi band to sing and play while his guests enjoyed the Mexican buffet he provided.View the AACA image gallery (/pool_billiard_photos/index.php?cat=12)A short meeting of the AACA followed dinner, with the introduction of the board coming first: Jim Stadum of Samsara Cues; Dr. Mike Shamos; Lynn Castle, the executive director of the Art Museum of Southeast Texas; Paul Del Giudice, a registered patent practitioner; Tom Watters; Ivan Lee, president of Simonis Cloth of North America; and Dan Dishaw, president of the AACA. In his address, Dishaw expressed that the Academy is dedicated to promoting the function art form of cue-making by challenging the cue-making community to push the envelope in developing new creations. It’s no surprise that we see larger numbers of attendees in Las Vegas, but we know that sales volume for our exhibitors can remain steady in other venues.
